Sombei comes from the Chinese word “松柏” (Sōngbǎi), meaning pine and cypress—aromatic evergreen woods long used in traditional Chinese incense.
They symbolize clarity, steadiness, and enduring strength—qualities we preserve in every natural, handcrafted product we craft.

Our Story
Sombei is rooted in the founder’s family heritage. Her grandfather, a rural herbal doctor in Yunnan, crafted incense from woods and medicinal plants—a time-honored craft shaped by China’s two-thousand-year tradition of incense and herbal wisdom.
The years she spent under his care, and the journeys returning home after immigrating to the United States, made one truth unmistakably clear:
the scent of plants can steady the emotions, slow the breath, and guide the body back into balance.
